This study examines the ethnoparenting practices of the Penesak ethnic community in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, in transmitting local cultural values to early childhood (0–6 years) amidst the currents of modernization and digitalization. The main research question stems from the challenge of preserving cultural values such as mutual cooperation, respect for ancestors, and the divine principle in child-rearing when the influences of technology and globalization are increasingly pervasive. The novelty of this research lies in the simultaneous integration of three analytical lenses Cultural Transmission Theory (Margaret Mead), Continuity and Change Theory, and Symbolic Interactionism (Herbert Blumer) to holistically analyze the dynamics of culturally based parenting. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach, the study utilizes in-depth interviews, participant observation, and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with parents, traditional leaders, and community members across three sub-districts: Indralaya Selatan, Tanjung Batu, and Payaraman. Thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns of continuity and change in ethnoparenting practices across generations. The findings reveal that although transformations occur in cultural transmission mechanisms and adaptations to digitalization take place, the core values of Penesak ethnoparenting are persistently maintained through social interactions within the family and community, as well as through the negotiation of symbolic meanings in daily parenting routines. This research contributes to the theoretical development of ethnoparenting and offers practical recommendations for integrating local cultural values into culturally sensitive early childhood education policies.
