The persistent predominance of teacher-centered, lecture-based instruction in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) limits space for developing students’ autonomy, self-awareness, and holistic character. This study examines how the principles of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s Among system, Ing Ngarsa Sung Tuladha, Ing Madya Mangun Karsa, and Tut Wuri Handayani, are reflected in PAI practice and identifies the conceptual and practical meeting points between the Among system and Islamic Religious Education. A qualitative case study approach was employed at SMK Yanindo Jakarta, involving one PAI teacher, one school principal, and 80 eleventh-grade students from four study programs, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through three months of participant observation, structured in-depth interviews, two focus group discussions, and documentation studies, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with methodological triangulation. The findings show substantial convergence between the Among system and PAI in practice: the PAI teacher consistently modeled religious conduct during classroom instruction and religious activities, classroom interaction reflected a dialogical rather than one-directional approach, and students were entrusted with organizing responsibility during the Ramadan study camp as a form of guided independence. At the same time, structural constraints were identified, including a limited weekly teaching allocation of three sessions of forty-five minutes, an assessment structure still weighted toward cognitive mastery, and a gap between students’ ritual competence and the internalization of religious values in daily behavior. This study contributes an applied, field-based case study that translates the conceptual alignment between the Among system and PAI into a practical integration model and policy recommendations for vocational education.
