Abstract

Eksistensi elit intelektual dalam khazanah Islam dikenal bersamaan dengan munculnya ajaran Islam itu sendiri. Kelompok cendekiawan tersebut, yang lebih populer disebut ulama, disinggung baik dalam Al-Qur’an maupun hadits Nabi.

Al-Qur’an sendiri sejak dini telah mengintrodusir tradisi ilmiah kepada orang-orang yang membacanya. Ungkapan-ungkapan seperti berpikir, merenung, memperhatikan, orang- orang  yang  menggunakan  akalnya;  adalah  term-term  dan  frasa  yang  bertebaran  pada banyak ayat Al-Qur’an.
